What to expect DURING CAMP?
Pono Outdoor Program Summer Camp is a fun, full-immersion outdoor experience for keiki ages designed to build confidence, life skills, and a strong connection with nature. Camp runs Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM, from June 8–July 2.
Throughout the summer, campers will spend their days swimming in natural waters, hiking, exploring the outdoors, and learning how to safely and respectfully care for the land. Keiki will gain hands-on experience with outdoor skills like fire building, water purification, safe knife use, natural building, foraging, and basic first aid — all taught with a strong focus on safety, awareness, and kuleana.
More than just an outdoor camp, this is a place where children build friendships, work together, and grow as a community. By unplugging from electronics and spending time in nature, campers leave feeling grounded, capable, connected, and inspired.
What are some common questions.....
1.) Where do we have class?
Pono Outdoor Program is a nomadic outdoor classroom, which means we explore different locations throughout Central Maui and Upcountry. Camp locations may include places like Makawao Forest Reserve, Olinda Forest, an organic farm in Haiku with a fresh water stream to get a change to swim, and Haycraft Beach.
By visiting forests, valleys, and beaches, keiki experience a variety of environments while learning to adapt, explore, and connect with nature. Every day is a new adventure filled with hands-on learning, movement, and discovery.
Parents will receive the daily drop-off and pick-up location ahead of time, via our summer newsletter upon completion of enrollment packet.
2.) What is the cost of Summer Camp?
Our 4-week Summer Program tuition is $1500 per student. This includes daily outdoor adventures, hands-on learning experiences, supplies, and guidance from experienced, safety-trained staff.
We also offer sibling discounts and special rates for families already enrolled in our yearly program. Please contact us for more information.
As an association, all tuition goes directly back into supporting the program, staff, safety training, and supplies needed to create a safe and meaningful experience for our keiki.
3.) Why choose Pono Outdoor Program Summer Camp?
Pono Outdoor Program offers a unique outdoor experience where keiki can unplug from electronics, build confidence, and connect with nature in a meaningful way.
Campers spend their days hiking, swimming, exploring, learning outdoor survival skills, building friendships, and working together as a community. Through hands-on experiences like fire building, foraging, natural building, and water purification, children develop independence, resilience, and respect for the ʻāina.
Our program is rooted in safety, kuleana, and connection — helping keiki grow not only in outdoor skills, but also in confidence, awareness, and teamwork. By the end of camp, children leave feeling more grounded, capable, and connected to themselves, others, and the natural world.
